When I received my first paycheck from my uncle’s coffee shop at 13, I learned the concept of “pay yourself first”. This concept involved taking 10% of my paycheck and placing into a Credit Union. Later in life I read books like the Richest Man in Babylon, Automatic Millionaire, and Profit First that enforced the “pay yourself first” mindset which I applied to my business at the onset. Now my company pays me a monthly dividend and I enjoy the financial freedom that turning profit into a habit has afforded me.
